A Thank-You Note from the San Juan Slam Tournament Chair

To the San Juan Slam 2024 Tournament Committee, the many volunteers, our generous, loyal sponsors, and in-kind sponsors, a heartfelt thank you cannot adequately express my gratitude for your dedication, creativity, and hard work. And to the Players of the tournament, thank you for joining us, showing us good sportsmanship, and putting on a super show of how fun a competitive sport like Pickleball can be. We hope we see you next year. If you didn’t play and came out to watch some good pickleball, we also thank you for coming and hope you had a good time. Maybe you will sign up to play next year.

Ten months, dozens of meetings, and so many hours of their personal time, these nine RPC fellow members planned, organized, and presented another successful San Juan Slam event. This year a record was set as we hosted the most 4.0 Players Teams ever having competed in a tournament on this side of the western slope.

Lenon Farkash, Tournament Play Director

Lenon’s professional skills and collaborative leadership with Pickleballbrackets Consultant, Gigi Guerra, managed an amazingly smoothly operating tournament for our first Medals Round Robin contest and in spite of the uncooperative weather.

Jeanne Jambor, Registration Director

Jeanne worked her magic and super technical skills along with hours and hours of her personal time incorporating our new Registration system and Pickleballbrackets software bringing us into the 21st Century and up to speed with the most sophisticated pickleball tournaments. And, if you were on the San Juan Slam premises at 6:30 a.m. from Friday-Sunday, you would have seen her here working along with our volunteers setting up and breaking down at the end of the day.

Dreamweaver Spielman, Media Director

DW’s strategic planning put SJS in the public’s eye right where we needed to be attracting more than 110 players from more than nine states. Our sponsors also expressed their extreme pleasure with the consistent media broadcasting of recognition they received. A very big job well done, DW.

Robin Camfield, Graphics Designer Director

Robin created on her time, in kind, every last one of our graphics from our logo to every poster, every banner, every flyer, ads, and signs to our thank you notes, and she publishes our great looking monthly newsletter.  Kudos to Robin for donating her superb creative talent so we could have the best looking, most professional marketing collateral.

Jean Shultz, Silent Auction Director

Jean was a real trooper to step in and take over the Silent Auction for us about half way through the planning of SJS. Her experience in organizing, soliciting, and presenting successful silent auctions was surely a benefit for us. We are very grateful to have her onboard.

Clark Gilbert, Infrastructure and Supplies Director

Infrastructure and Supplies is one of the most extensive positions in the planning process because it requires one to have an understanding and be involved in every aspect of SJS from planning to play. Clark did a fine job of helping to round up the multitude of equipment and supplies. He was there making sure we had what was needed when it was needed.

Kim Hughes, Sponsorship Director

Kim never skipped a beat when it came time to kick into gear her former professional fundraising skills. She was on top of it from day one strategically engaging with our local business community and creating lasting relationships with key influencers. Kim managed to meet and surpass every goal that was set for soliciting sponsors and funds. Wow, aren’t we fortunate to have her on our team!

Ralph Stellmacher, Budget Director

Ralph not only forecasts and tracks our spending, he gives us excellent feedback on helping to maintain our objectives with an understanding of the relative value while keeping us on budget. Whew, thank you, Ralph.

Rustin Weaver and Dan Reardon, Play Day Emcees

Rustin was there early every day of the tournament setting up his own PA system for which we are very grateful. Our Play Day Emcees were Rustin Weaver and  Dan Reardon  Thank you, guys, for helping us to give our sponsors more recognition during the games.

Jeff and Amy Marchio, Marchio’s Italian Food Truck

Oh, my goodness, if you didn’t have one of Jeff’s Breakfast Burritos, I’m sorry for you. You better go look for that little black truck and have one because it’s the best this side of Texas! We heard nothing but good things about Marchio’s food and service. Thank you, thank you for being there for us all three days of the tournament. Please come back next year.

Now, if you have ever managed an event of any size, you know the day of  nothing happens without your ‘Worker Bee’ Volunteers. SJS is no exception—a huge grateful thank you to these tireless working folks who were there all three days from 6:30 a.m. to the end of each very long day, rain or shine.
